Dave, another leftish way to look at the inevitable saviour manifesting in the form of the round-eye westerner, is that he could stand for Western "enlightenment" in the way that Marx has informed revolutions around the world.
And, yes, even the peaceniks have to resort to armed struggle in order to win.
I went to see it with my daughter and son-in-law. They thought it was shit and highly predictable in that the noble savages despite all their natural wisdom must be saved by the Yank, and hypocritical because despite all the sentimentality about religion and nature the oucome is decided by big weaponed callous violence. But I really enjoyed it. How can you not enjoy seeing Donald Rumsfeld and Hoon, their helicopters and bulldozers being (fictionally) defeated by Dances With Wolves and Pocohantas? But I think my critical facilities were blunted by being in love. Maybe I should have reread Germinal instead. Anyway I'd rather kids saw this than most Holywood films even if it makes a shed of money.
Have to say tho' am still psyching myself to see it as King of Hubris Cameron annoys me somewhat. In saying that, there are usually strong women characters in his films.

Those kids aren't wrong.
But the spectacle … ooo, a-a-ah! Yes, Cameron succeeded in putting my brain on hold. Avatar 3D, the opium of the masses.
If religion doesn't getcha, the CGI will.

That's hilarious! I guess the future of cinema is pretty much like its past, except in 3-D. ;p
this has been going around. it's pretty spot-on.
